DLMS UA and OMS Group Sign Liaison Agreement to Advance Standardization in the Water and Gas Industries

The DLMS UA and the Open Metering System (OMS) Group are proud to announce the signing of a liaison agreement, marking a significant step forward in fostering interoperability and standardization across the electricity, water, gas and thermal energy industries.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to driving innovation and efficiency through the harmonization of global standards. By leveraging DLMS UA’s expertise in developing globally recognized data models and data formats and OMS Group’s experience in low-power communication technology and metering solutions, this agreement aims to provide comprehensive solutions tailored to the needs of the electricity, water, gas, and thermal energy sectors.

The liaison agreement sets the stage for coordinated efforts to:

  • Facilitate the convergence of both standardization frameworks by adopting the DLMS Data Model and Format over M-Bus and Wireless M-Bus low-power communication technologies, ensuring enhanced interoperability between devices and systems in the electricity, water, gas and thermal energy industries.
  • Align global initiatives to facilitate seamless integration of smart metering technologies while ensuring robust support for legacy systems.
  • Foster innovation by addressing emerging challenges in metering, data exchange, and system integration.
  • Extend the interoperability within metering systems by defining unambiguous conversion of OMS and DLMS data models.

“This partnership aligns with our vision of creating a unified framework for interoperable multi-utility smart metering systems, enabling significant advancements in the water and gas sectors” said Sergio Lazzarotto, President & Executive Director, DLMS UA.

“Our vision is to create seamless interoperability for the electricity, water, gas and thermal energy sectors by using interoperable data models, protocols and communication technologies” added Ulrich Eff of the OMS Board.

The signing of this agreement underscores the importance of collaboration between industry leaders in shaping the future of smart metering and strengthening the foundation for resource management worldwide.
