Golden Communication Devices & Environments
“Golden Communication Environments” and “Golden Communication Devices” provide DLMS UA members with a defined test bench configuration on which to test the native communication technology.
Depending on the communication technology, the test bench can be composed of :
- An operator network, a cloud service and a golden communication device (eg. LoRaWAN) that is referred to as a Golden Communication Environment
- An operator network and off-the-shelf components (eg. 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE-M, NB-IOT…)
- Golden communication devices (eg. Wi-SUN, G3-PLC)
In cases where an operator network and off-the-shelf components are used, the DLMS UA Test Tool connecting to the device under test will verify that the COSEM interface class corresponds to the native communication technology.
In cases where Golden Communication Devices are used, key elements enumerate themselves during the discovery phase to be recognized by the DLMS UA Test Tool so that only the accredited golden communication devices and any corresponding hardware and software are used. The DLMS UA Test Tool will permit to configure the Golden Communication Device.
Golden Communication Device configurations are available from CTT/DTT Ver.4.3 and iDTT 3.0.
how do i buy and license golden communication devices & Environments
Accredited golden communication devices and environments, composed of hardware, firmware and/or software components, exist for the DLMS UA Communication Profiles listed below. To procure these, select the native communication technology over which tests should be performed.
Members should be aware that only these components will work with the test tools.
Wi-sun alliance
Wireless Network Information: To perform tests, the DLMS UA Test Tool should be configured by selecting the Wi-Sun option in the configuration test file (see the CTI-specifications provided with the tool). Additionally, the DUT should be configured in order to operate correctly using both the WI-SUN setup and WI-SUN diagnostic COSEM interface classes.
Delivery of the Qualification Certificate: By following the aforementioned recommendations, the DLMS UA Qualification Certificate references the wirelesss network over which tests have been performed.

2G / 3G / 4G, LTE-M or NB-IoT
This is a DIY setup, as all the necessary elements such as modems and connections to the operator network are readily available in the market. The Test Tool establishes a connection between the device under test (DUT) and the operator network utilizing a modem. This network is managed by the operator with whom the member has a communication subscription agreement.
Operator Network Information: To perform tests, the DLMS UA Test Tool should be configured by selecting the CELLULAR option in the configuration test file (see the CTI-specifications provided with the tool). Additionally, the DUT should be configured in order to operate correctly using the GSM Diagnostic COSEM interface class to retrieve operator network reference data.
Delivery of the Qualification Certificate: By following the aforementioned recommendations, the DLMS UA Qualification Certificate references the operator network and the wireless communication technology over which tests have been performed.
G3 alliance
Network Information: To perform tests, the DLMS UA Test Tool should be configured by selecting the G3 or G3-Hybrid option in the configuration test file (see the CTI-specifications provided with the tool). Additionally, the DUT should be configured in order to operate correctly using both the G3 setup and G3 COSEM interface classes.
