08-3 The DLMS UA at Asian Energy Week
The DLMS User Association at Asian Energy Week
Since more than three years, a strong interest in the DLMS/COSEM specification (IEC 62056 series / EN 13757-1) has been recorded from Asia. Today, some 25 % of the 100+ members of the DLMS UA come from this fast developing region of the world, and 14 of the 28 manufacturers having obtained a DLMS Compliant Certificate are from Australia, China, India or South-Korea.
This is why – after participating at similar conferences held earlier in Beijing and Bangkok – we have decided to be present again at the Asia Energy Weeks event organised by Synergy.
The conference this year has been held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 26-28th May, and the DLMS UA was present with a paper, the DLMS training seminar and a booth.
The paper was given by Gyozo Kmethy, with the Title “DLMS/COSEM – a smart standard for smart metering”. He gave a summary on the positive experience with DLMS/COSEM in recent smart metering projects, in particular with the Dutch project, leading to the development of the NTA 8130 specification based on DLMS/COSEM. These projects have highlighted that DLMS/COSEM – in particular its object-oriented approach, modelling an ever growing range of metering applications – is not only a language for interoperable meters, but also a language between suppliers and vendors to exactly formulate requirements, based on which efficient and interoperable solutions can be delivered. The working groups of the DLMS UA, handling maintenance, conformance testing, smart metering and gas metering, provide an excellent platform for co-operation between all stakeholders. The result of their work is directly fed into international standardization – a cornerstone of the strategy of the DLMS UA – to ensure that the specification is available for all without constraints.
At the seminar, an overview of the specification was given, with an emphasis on the latest developments added to support residential smart metering. Participants came from India, New-Zeeland, Saudi Arabia and Singapore and a lively interactive session has developed with many practical points discussed.
At the booth we had the opportunity to meet several current and would-be users and members. As usual, the usefulness of our participation has been directly confirmed by new applications for membership in the DLMS UA.
