06-3 DLMS for all energy types
DLMS for all energy types –
and a new Associated member…
One of the main advantages of DLMS/COSEM is the proper separation of user data to be transported, and the protocol transporting this data. This made it easy to cover all energy types / media. Gas is in the focus of interest right now.
Gas meters are becoming complex: market moves from volume measurement to energy measurement. There is an urgent need to identify a lot of parameters unambiguously, e.g. gas properties. DLMS/COSEM has been evaluated as it fulfils ideally these needs.
A co-operation has been established between DVGW (Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. - German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) and the DLMS UA. Both are now associated members in each other's organization.
User data is largely defined in OBIS, the OBject Identification System. The OBIS codes to be defined will be also used for data identification in EDIFACT messages to ensure a transparent data chain. EN 13757 already specifies a lot of Gas OBIS codes, these have to be further extended, keeping upwards compatibility.
The scope of the ongoing co-operation with DVGW isdefinition of new OBIS codeshandling status information (metering and processing)
data security
etc.
Working groups define the details in meetings or via e-mail. Other large gas organizations have also expressed their interest.
Mainly in the electricity field, a need for simple residential devices has also been identified. Also here, working groups in multiple countries gather information and collect ideas – buzzwords like “DLMS LIGHT” are created …
The DLMS UA is ready to extend the DLMS/COSEM specification, with a view of co-operation with International Standardization though its cooperation partners: CEN TC 294, IEC TC 13.
